About this gathering
The Night the Lights Go Low
Our best-loved evening of the year. The chapel glows with a hundred candles as we sing the great carols — Silent Night by true candlelight — hear the nativity story told for children and grown-ups alike, and share communion together.
Afterwards, mince pies and mulled apple juice in the hall. No tickets, no collection, no dress code — just bring the whole family, including the dog if he’s good with crowds.
The evening in order
- 1.Carols and readings (17:00). O Come All Ye Faithful to Hark! The Herald, with the nativity story in four short scenes.
- 2.Candlelight Silent Night (17:50). The lights dim, the flame passes hand to hand, and three hundred voices sing as one.
- 3.Mince pies in the hall (18:15). Stay for something warm — and take a candle home for Christmas morning.
From last Christmas
“We came because the children wanted candles. We stayed because, somewhere between the second carol and the mince pies, it started to feel like coming home.”
